Using Your High School Planner

The high school years are a perfect time for teaching personal and time management. With this in mind, I created the Well Planned High School Planner, a tool especially designed to help high schoolers develop the skills they need before graduating.

The Well Planned High School Planner is perfectly sized to throw in a backpack or keep on a desk, making it versatile and accessible for the busy high schooler.

Whether you have just opened your brand new planner or are still contemplating if this is the resource for you or your student, take a moment to join me for a look inside the Well Planned High School Planner, this year provided in two designs! Choose between the Vintage Vines or Tumbling Tetrominoes design.

These pages are packed full of information to help you along each stage of the high school journey. First, you will an article walking you through how to use your planner. Next, you’ll see articles covering information you need to help you plan each year well.

Why High Schoolers Should Use A Planner

A portfolio is a collection of school work and projects that can be evaluated and used to show progress. In some states, a portfolio is required as part of the homeschool requirements and will be kept for each student throughout the course of every homeschool year. In this case, portfolios can be stored in a file folder, file box, or filing cabinet as paper items. They can also be electronic, and can be stored on a computer or online by scanning any paper items and using digital media.

Keep in mind that there is a difference between an annual portfolio and a college-prep portfolio. An annual portfolio is about record-keeping, reporting, and progress evaluation, whereas a high school or college portfolio is a representation of skills and accomplishments assembled for the purpose of gaining college admission or employment.

High School Planners

As my oldest daughter was wrapping up her middle school years, I began to panic over the high school journey she was about to embark on. I did some research and quickly realized I would need to make sure I kept good records for the next four years, even though we didn't know at the time if she was college bound.

Along with the need for record-keeping, there was also the need for planning four years of credits, semester goals, and daily assignments. With that in mind, I created the High School 4 Year Plan.

When daughter #2 started the journey, she wanted a planner she could throw in her backpack to keep track of tutorial classes and daily assignments while also keeping up with her responsibilities and social life. With her own planner to carry around, she developed time management skills with the Well Planned High School planner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this planner replace the need for Well Planned Day?

Many parents find that they no longer need Well Planned Day as their students progress into high school. It might be a good idea, however, to consider the High School 4 Year Plan to accompany this one-year planner.

How does this planner work with the 4 Year Plan?

The High School planner is a one-year planner specifically designed to help students learn time management skills. The 4 Year Plan is more of a long-term planner, designed to keep high school records all in one place to make transcript and portfolio creation simple. Using both planners will help you and your student have everything you need on hand when it comes time to deal with graduation and/or college application requirements.

How do my students use the routine boxes?

Does your student have sets of tasks that are the same each day? For instance, what does his or her morning or bedtime routine look like? Assign a number to each routine set (for instance, morning routine can be #1) and make a list in the front of the planner so you student knows all tasks that must be accomplished before completing that routine. Once all of those tasks are completed each day, he or she may check off that number. Find more detailed information in the "How to Use Your Planner" article in the planner.

Lifesaver for High School Review by Olivia
I was kind of nervous about keeping up with everything when I first started high school. But, my mom handed me my first high school planner, and I immediately fell in love with it! I had used the student planner for a couple of years, but the high school version was even better - and it's only improved over the years. I'm now a senior, and this year's version is the best yet!

The way the weekly view lets me split assignments and other tasks is really helpful. I enjoy the quotes and Bible verses every week, and the routine checkboxes are a perfect space saver. I also like the "notes" page. It's handy for things I need to remember each month but don't need cluttering up my daily lists.

This planner has been a lifesaver for high school, and I can't wait to start using the college planner next year! (Posted on 3/4/2020)
