Well Planned Gal

Assessment & Placement Tests

YEARLY ASSESSMENTS AND GUIDES

As a mom of five, I began giving my kids achievement tests at an early age. After teaching them how to fill in the small circles and sharpen their number 2 pencils, the kids would walk into classrooms, doors would close, and testing would begin.

Six weeks later, I would receive test reports which gave vague indications of how each child was doing compared to students across the nation. The broad descriptions of achievement in specific areas provided very little useful information to help me know how to strengthen my kids in the coming year.

Over the years, I sought an assessment option that would help me choose the best curriculum, cover information unknown to my child, and fill in any educational gaps. Unfortunately, none of the tests I found accomplished this goal. That needed to change!

Recognizing the need, I began working with the Well Planned Gal curriculum developer Tiffany Orthman, M.Ed., to develop a one of a kind, easy-to-use assessment and placement test for parents and students to work through together. Well Planned Start is the result of our efforts.

WELL PLANNED START

EVALUATING ACADEMIC SUCCESS
Created for any family, Well Planned Start allows parents to see exactly where their child is thriving or struggling. The placement includes guidelines and instructions to evaluate student proficiency while assessing the exact point of a student’s understanding of specific processes, procedures, and information.

The results give the parent a starting point for choosing curriculum or engaging in conversation with teachers to establish a plan for strengthening weak areas.
EACH BOOK INCLUDES
  • Parent Assessment
  • Student Placement
  • Plan of Action Worksheets
  • Bible, History, Science, Math, & Language Arts
  • Parent Teaching Tips and Suggestions

WELL PLANNED START SECTIONS
The Well Planned Start has been organized and arranged in order of sequence. Each section has an introduction with detailed information on how to assess your student, administer the placement test, and understand the milestones.

Parent Assessment
The goal of this section is to become familiar with what your student knows. If your student has been attending school or hybrid homeschooling, this area will give you the opportunity to begin dialogues to process the depth of understanding in each subject. There are detailed instructions on how to use this assessment, as well as worksheets to journal your findings.

Student Placement
Unlike standardized testing, these student placements allow parents to see first hand the specific areas students excel and need help in. By using the guide to administer the assessment, you not only give instructions to your student, but you will also follow instructions that help you know what to watch for as the student works through the questions. This allows you to discover where the breakdown begins in the process.

Parent Teaching Tips
After administering assessments, you will find practical teaching tips and activity suggestions for every concept covered in the placement. Use these suggested activities to strengthen low-scoring areas, keep your child challenged, fill in gaps, and more!

Student Milestones
Complete with a checklist of milestones, Well Planned Start provides a year-long guide on what to expect from your child physically, emotionally, and academically. Beyond what they should achieve, we’ve included what they may achieve, including even advanced achievements. An additional checklist is included in each area to let you know how to help your child along the way.

MISSOURI ASSOCIATION OF TEACHING CHRISTIAN HOMES (MATCH) REVIEW

We have looked for something like this for years and Rebecca Farris with The Well Planned Gal has nailed this series!!! In MO, we don't have to test our students, but we highly suggest testing them in some way at least every 3 years so that you know where your student(s) stand.

I can't say enough good about this group of placement tests. The book that you want to purchase is the year you are finishing up. If your child is finishing the 5th grade, you want to purchase the book for the 5th grade book. MATCH highly recommends these tests! Thanks so much Mrs. Farris for all of your wonderful work in a much needed area!

These books cover: Math, Language Arts, History, Science, and Bible. Mrs. Farris covers several parts in this book.

Parent Teaching

This covers every area. She gives helps on how to help your child get each part of each subject. This is an awesome bonus that I find very helpful in all 3 levels (grade 3, 7 and 10) that I got to review.

Milestones area

This covers what to expect in each grade, how your child is growing, feeling, and learning. She has done a super job with this section!
  • Your child should be able to - What 80% of children are comfortable doing.
  • Your child may be able to - What 50% of children are comfortable doing.
  • Your child may even try to - What 20% of children are able to attempt.
